We would like to congratulate Hillel Furstenberg and Gregory Margulis on receiving the Abel Prize for 2020! They were recognized by the Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters "for pioneering the use of methods from probability and dynamics in group theory, number theory and combinatorics." Their work has shown why crossing boundaries between mathematical disciplines is effective in making breakthroughs and they succeeded in dismantling the wall between pure and applied mathematics.
